Only a week shy of the four-year anniversary of the Colonial Pipeline assault, cybersecurity throughout US essential infrastructure, significantly operational know-how, is lagging woefully behind the nation’s adversaries.

A bit of fine information got here out of the notorious incident, based on Michael Garcia, affiliate chief of coverage with the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Safety Company. Throughout a panel dialogue yesterday on securing essential infrastructure at RSAC Convention 2025, he stated the assault jolted the collective conscience of the nation awake to the truth that ransomware was a real risk, and {that a} cyber-attack may have real-world operational know-how penalties. However past consciousness, little has improved throughout essential infrastructure networks.

“Have we completed sufficient?” Garcia requested rhetorically throughout his opening remarks. “The reply is not any.”
