Meta Pledges $1B to Build AI Data Center in Wisconsin

(Bloomberg) — Meta Platforms is spending greater than $1 billion to construct an information heart in Wisconsin that may energy synthetic intelligence work, its newest funding within the infrastructure wanted for the fast-moving AI race. 

The 700,000 sq.ft information heart shall be positioned in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin – a small metropolis north of Madison and Milwaukee, Meta mentioned Wednesday in an announcement. It’s anticipated to be operational in 2027, and help about 100 full-time jobs. Meta mentioned it’ll work with the native utility, Alliant Power, and underwrite $200 million in vitality infrastructure investments to help the info heart, together with transmission strains and community upgrades. 

Bloomberg Information in April reported Meta’s plans to develop an information heart in Wisconsin. 

Chief Government Officer Mark Zuckerberg has vowed to spend aggressively on AI infrastructure, repeatedly telling buyers that he thinks it’s higher to overspend on AI than to underspend. The corporate will make investments $600 billion within the US via 2028, Zuckerberg and different executives have mentioned, with a lot of that cash centered on chips, information facilities and different gear.

Meta is constructing gigawatt-sized information facilities in a number of different states, together with Ohio, Texas and Louisiana. 

Meta executives have described this technique as a type of “front-loading” computing capability in preparation for reaching the corporate’s purpose of “superintelligence,” an evolution of AI that may meet or outperform people at many duties.
