Indiana Chip Plant Awarded $450M in CHIPS Act Funding

Indiana Chip Plant Awarded $450M in CHIPS Act Funding

A Korean semiconductor firm has secured $450 million from the CHIPS and Science Act to help the development of a state-of-the-art fabrication and analysis and improvement facility in West Lafayette, Indiana.

SK Hynix was awarded the funding by the Commerce Division for the brand new facility that may concentrate on producing high-bandwidth reminiscence chips, designed to deal with massive volumes of information and sophisticated computations. 

These chips are important for powering high-performance computing and AI purposes. They will course of as much as 1.18 terabytes of information per second – equal to streaming 230 full HD films directly – making them essential parts in {hardware} like GPUs.

SK Hynix’s proposed chip plant is anticipated to return on-line in the beginning of the second half of 2028 and can create round 1,000 new jobs.

As a part of its funding dedication, the Korean firm can be eligible to say tax credit of as much as 25% on its investments.

Along with the $450 million in direct funding, the corporate has entry to as much as $500 million in loans from the CHIPS Program Workplace.
