HUBER+SUHNER has expanded its partnership with Microsoft Azure Fiber, alongside funding to extend manufacturing capabilities. The event is meant to help the deployment of Hole Core Fiber (HCF) cable and connectivity options utilized in cloud and AI infrastructure.
Since 2017, the collaboration between the 2 organisations has supported the event and manufacture of HCF cable and connector options, originating from work with the Azure workforce in Romsey, UK. Greater-capacity variants are actually in growth to help plans for scaling HCF-enabled cloud infrastructure.
The partnership has resulted in a portfolio of outdoor plant (OSP) and inside plant (ISP) cable options which can be licensed for area deployment. Present work is concentrated on higher-density HCF cable designs aligned with Azure’s community necessities. At HUBER+SUHNER’s Herisau facility in Switzerland, manufacturing processes are being ready to combine HCF into multi-fiber loose-tube (MLT) cable codecs as manufacturing scale will increase.
A mode-converting HCF connector, designed for hyperscale and metro-optical environments, can also be a part of the event work. These connectors are produced on the Dice Optics facility in Mainz, Germany and are being manufactured as capability expands.
The mixed HCF cable and connector developments are being positioned as a part of an end-to-end connectivity strategy throughout the ongoing collaboration between HUBER+SUHNER and Microsoft Azure.
