In a report by Fivetran, titled The Enterprise Knowledge Infrastructure Benchmark 2026, it’s highlighted that regardless of substantial monetary commitments, the fragility of knowledge pipelines stays an impediment to analytics and AI progress in giant enterprises.

The analysis attracts on enter from 500 senior knowledge and expertise leaders from organisations with over 5,000 workers. Almost 97% of those leaders report that pipeline failures have delayed analytics or AI initiatives, indicating reliability as a rising consider enterprise AI supply.

Slightly than underinvestment, the report identifies supporting structure as the first problem. It notes that enterprises are allocating a median of $29.3 million yearly to knowledge initiatives, but reliability points proceed to impression enterprise worth.

With 14% of those budgets — roughly $4.2 million yearly — allotted to integration, many organisations function a mixture of legacy ETL methods and DIY pipelines. As knowledge volumes enhance, these methods develop into harder to take care of. The benchmark highlights an estimated $3 million in month-to-month enterprise publicity as a result of pipeline downtime and operational disruption, reflecting a spot between funding and measurable returns.

Reliability challenges enhance as knowledge environments scale, with enterprises managing a median of over 300 pipelines. The examine finds that 53% of engineering capability is targeted on sustaining current pipelines, limiting sources for innovation and AI initiatives.

This usually ends in operational disruption, with an estimated 4.7 pipeline failures per thirty days, every taking almost 13 hours to resolve. The ensuing downtime exceeds 60 hours per thirty days, delaying analytics supply and AI deployment timelines.

As AI adoption will increase, a shift in the direction of open knowledge infrastructure architectures is anticipated. These approaches emphasise automated knowledge motion and interoperability, supporting extra resilient and scalable environments whereas lowering engineering overhead.

It’s more and more urged that as enterprises goal to enhance competitiveness, adoption of open knowledge infrastructure methods might play a job in bettering flexibility and operational resilience.
