On the DCN Information Desk throughout Information Middle World 2025, Omdia’s Manoj Sukumaran shared his perspective on the AI computing revolution, evaluating it to the evolution of cellular networks.

“We’re within the 2G period of AI,” he defined, suggesting the business is just at the start of a transformative journey.

Addressing the projected $1 trillion in international knowledge heart capex by 2030, Sukumaran emphasised that present computing techniques aren’t optimized for big language fashions, necessitating a whole infrastructure overhaul. He pointed to options rising throughout the business, together with novel approaches to energy era – reminiscent of ship engines probably being tailored for knowledge heart use.

Sukumaran highlighted the important problem of knowledge motion, which at present consumes 60% of vitality in AI techniques. He detailed how next-generation chips, like Nvidia’s future Rubin Extremely, are tackling this via the mixing of compute and reminiscence components in single packages.

The analyst maintains that whereas the business faces vital challenges in energy, cooling, and infrastructure, the mixture of innovation and sources will drive options ahead as AI computing scales from at this time’s 100,000-GPU clusters to anticipated million-scale deployments.
