Vodafone expands Open RAN rollout in Europe with Wind River cloud platform

Vodafone has chosen Wind River Cloud Platform because the CaaS (containers-as-a-service) layer for its Open RAN websites in Germany, including the UK operator’s footprint to current deployments in Europe.

This partnership will increase Vodafone’s Open RAN footprint, working in the direction of a extra open, versatile and energy-efficient community design.

Wind River Cloud Platform, with roots within the open-source StarlingX challenge, presents a Kubernetes and container-enabled platform for controlling edge networks at scale. Open RAN delivers advantages from diminished capex and opex, enhanced vitality effectivity, new use instances, and an improved buyer expertise.

“Vodafone continues to advance and collaborate with the trade in realizing the promise of Open RAN. We’re proud to increase our partnership to allow the subsequent wave of large-scale deployments,” says Paul Miller, chief know-how officer, Wind River. “Wind River Cloud Platform delivers the scalable, distributed cloud infrastructure service suppliers must run next-generation networks effectively.”

Wind River can also be part of a number of notable telecom trade firsts, such because the world’s first 5G knowledge session on a totally virtualized infrastructure and the service supplier trade’s first business deployment of Open RAN in Canada.

Wind River Know-how covers the whole cloud continuum from core to far edge for environment friendly next-generation community operations.
