TSMC gets $6.6 billion in CHIPS funding for third Arizona fab

The three fabs, which can be located close to Phoenix, will every manufacture various kinds of chips, in accordance with TSMC’s assertion. The primary, which is about to start manufacturing within the first half of 2025, will produce chips utilizing the corporate’s 4nm course of expertise. The second, slated to open in 2028, will produce 2nm and 3nm chips, whereas the third will cowl 2nm and much more superior chip designs.

TSMC’s US manufacturing has confronted delays in getting up and working. The primary Arizona foundry, which was introduced in 2020, was set to open later this yr and is now on observe to start manufacturing within the first half of 2025. The company announced in January that the second foundry, initially slated for a 2026 opening, would even be delayed. TSMC mentioned right this moment that it goals to have its third fab in operation by 2030.
