Toronto partners with OVIN to launch AI and 5G traffic management pilot zone

The town of Toronto has teamed up with the Ontario Automobile Innovation Community (OVIN) to provoke a know-how pilot zone mission, in a bid to check technological options to the town’s transportation points.

Through the pilot part, these firms will deploy new site visitors cameras and sensor applied sciences that use AI and 5G networks to enhance site visitors administration. Profitable applied sciences could also be adopted by the Metropolis to cut back congestion, enhance street security, and make transportation extra environment friendly for residents, companies, and guests.

The partnership was introduced by Mayor Olivia Chow and Raed Kadri, head of OVIN, together with the Honourable Filomena Tassi, minister liable for FedDev Ontario, the Honourable Victor Fedeli, Ontario minister of financial growth, job creation and commerce, and the Honourable Vijay Thanigasalam, Ontario affiliate minister of transportation.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Metropolis and OVIN goals to permit small- and medium-sized enterprises to obtain as much as $100,000 in funding. In keeping with the announcement made by the town of Toronto, the funding will likely be used to check site visitors administration applied sciences in real-world settings, using 5G wi-fi connectivity and superior computing applied sciences like AI.

“As Ontario and Canada’s financial and tech powerhouse and largest metropolitan space, the Metropolis of Toronto is uniquely positioned to undertake progressive city mobility applied sciences that can facilitate safer, cleaner, and extra environment friendly transportation,” says Raed Kadri, head of OVIN.

The OVIN Expertise Pilot Zone for city mobility cultivates the unparalleled potential of made-in-Ontario innovation to deal with mobility challenges whereas accelerating their commercialization and progress.”

The initiative goals to help Toronto’s congestion administration plan 2023-2026, with the objective of addressing the town’s site visitors administration challenges. Toronto metropolis council adopted the plan in November 2023.

“As a vibrant, dynamic, and rising metropolis, it’s vital to discover new methods to raised handle all types of site visitors so we are able to hold Toronto transferring.
