SFU’s high-performance computer to receive revolutionary upgrade

Simon Fraser College’s high-performance pc on the Cedar Nationwide Host Website has obtained a serious enhance with greater than CA$80m in funding.

The funding will allow SFU to create a brand new system that may seamlessly change and improve the prevailing high-performance pc, which is nearing the top of its life.

The brand new system will match or exceed Cedar’s present storage capability and computing efficiency, benefitting tens of hundreds of customers throughout Canada.

New funding will enhance innovation throughout a number of sectors

The mixed funding consists of $40,946,000 from the Digital Analysis Alliance of Canada, $24,567,600 from the Province of British Columbia, and greater than $15m in contributions from companions.

The Alliance can also be contributing an extra $248,000 to fund three research-support positions.

“For years, SFU’s Cedar supercomputer has empowered Canadian researchers to sort out issues in sectors starting from personalised drugs for higher affected person care to inexperienced applied sciences to assist battle local weather change,” defined Pleasure Johnson, SFU’s president and vice-chancellor.

“These beneficiant investments from the Digital Analysis Alliance of Canada and the Province of British Columbia will enable us to proceed making a distinction for BC, Canada and the world by means of superior computing energy.

World-leading capabilities of the Cedar high-performance pc

SFU’s Cedar, which was one of many high 100 supercomputers on the planet (and high 15 on the Inexperienced 500 when it was constructed), offers superior computing energy and storage to gasoline analysis innovation.

Amongst its many achievements, the supercomputer has allowed SFU engineering science professor Mirza Faisal Beg to spearhead AI analysis that might assist redefine most cancers therapy.
