Rubi Secures $1 Million Phase II Grant from the National Science Foundation

Rubi, a San Francisco, CA-based carbon-to-cellulose platform supplier, acquired a $969,961 Small Enterprise Innovation Analysis (SBIR) Section II grant from the Nationwide Science Basis (NSF).

The corporate intends to allocate the quantity for the commercialization of its CO2-to-materials expertise.

The NSF Section II award builds on Rubi’s profitable Section I grant completion in 2023, which superior multi-enzyme cascade design and enzyme stabilization for carbon-to-cellulose manufacturing. Since then, Rubi’s milestones embrace:

  • An $8.7M seed funding spherical, co-led by H&M Group and Patagonia.
  • Strategic pilot partnerships with world vogue manufacturers H&M, Patagonia, Reformation, GANNI, and Nuuly.
  • A sequence of pilot tasks in collaboration with Walmart.
  • Debuting the world’s first yarn created from CO2 by a totally enzymatic course of with Ganni.
  • Recognition from Quick Firm’s World Altering Concepts, TIME’s Prime Greentech Corporations, Enterprise of Vogue 500, Vogue Enterprise 100, and Forbes 30 Beneath 30 lists.

Based in 2021 by two twin sisters, Neeka Mashouf and Dr. Leila Mashouf, Rubi is a producing firm creating expertise that transforms waste carbon into important supplies. By changing resource-intensive processes with its carbon-to-materials platform, the corporate is creating a producing system that works in concord with the planet. Impressed by how timber develop, the corporate makes use of biochemical processes empowered by enzymes to create planet-positive supplies, like textiles, derived from CO2.
