OpenAI CEO: Vision Pro is '2nd most impressive tech' since iPhone
SHARE

This is kind of a cheap Friday post, but I was struck by the fact that OpenAI’s CEO and co-founder Sam Altman just posted on X/Twitter that he thought the new Apple Vision Pro is the “second most impressive tech since the iPhone.”

— Sam Altman (@sama) February 9, 2024

(Presumably, he thinks OpenAI’s own ChatGPT is the no. 1 “most impressive” new tech since Apple launched its mobile device in 2007.)

Altman also responded to a reply guy that said Apple’s new spatial computing headset had “probably the worst name tho,” and dinged his own product in the proccess.

Given Altman’s impressions, it makes a lot of sense that OpenAI already shipped a visionOS version of the ChatGPT app last week.

At $3,500 up front (or $291.58 per month for a year), the Vision Pro is one of the more expensive mass market tech devices in a while, but it is apparently off to a strong start, with third party estimates suggesting it’s already sold more than 200,000 units since it was first available for purchase in the U.S. last month.
