Nokia and Tampnet extend 5G to the Gulf, bringing real-time edge offshore

Nokia and Tampnet crew up for 5G offshore connectivity within the Gulf of Mexico, extending the businesses’ deployment of a 5G-ready edge computing community in Norway.

The partnership will present Tampnet with a subsequent era 5G standalone core community to assist the supply of mission essential, high-quality, dependable wi-fi connectivity protecting 120 base stations on over 350-400 offshore platforms, rigs, and vessels.

This program is making it simpler for offshore functions with next-level features resembling real-time distant monitoring, predictive upkeep and scalable automation.

“Our collaboration with Tampnet demonstrates how Nokia’s personal wi-fi options are enabling digital transformation in among the world’s most difficult environments,” says Jeff Pittman, Head of North America Enterprise, Cellular Networks, Nokia. “Collectively, we’re setting new requirements for offshore connectivity that may ship long-term worth to power producers and their workforce.”

Tampnet’s infrastructure, which includes subsea fiber networks, serves because the spine of offshore connectivity within the Gulf, offering ultra-low latency and most uptime to essential operations.

The 5G AirScale answer from Nokia will open up new digital use-cases, such because the Web of Issues (IoT) and machine studying, to enhance security for our folks and effectivity of its offshore operations.

This three way partnership will outline and handle the general TUPI submarine cable mission, constructing a high-quality infrastructure system.

Nokia lately secured a $1 billion NVIDIA funding to drive AI-powered 6G networks.
