Murata steps up its IoT game with Matter-compliant connectivity module

Murata steps up its IoT game with Matter-compliant connectivity module

Murata recently introduced the Type 2FR connectivity module, which incorporates NXP Semiconductor’s RW612 Wireless MCU with integrated tri-radio.

The company says this module’s compact form factor and IoT connectivity make it ideal for various applications, including smart home devices, appliances, industrial automation and smart city solutions.

The Type 2FR device provides connectivity, efficiency and Matter compatibility through various communication protocols such as WiFi, Thread and Ethernet. The company notes this simplifies device interoperability and management while ensuring optimal performance and ease of use.

Mehul Udani, VP of corporate technology and innovation at Murata Americas, says: “By leveraging our proprietary technology and NXP’s latest Tri-radio Wireless MCU, we have delivered a robust solution approximately 50 percent smaller than discrete implementation. Further, the WiFi and ethernet capability allows the IoT device to function as a border router to enable other new applications.”

NXP’s Type 2FR module, equipped with the Arm Cortex-M33 core, advanced EdgeLock security, and versatile co-processor mode, offers an environment for many IoT applications. With the backing of the MCUXpresso ecosystem, the company notes that this solution expedites development and provides compliance and reliability.

Larry Olivas, VP and general manager of wireless connectivity solutions at NXP Semiconductors, states: “This latest offering demonstrates an advanced solution that enables a complete system in a module, thus reducing design time and risk for IoT developers.”

Murata designs, manufactures and sells ceramic-based electronic components and solutions, communication modules and power supply modules. The company also develops electronic materials and multi-functional, high-density modules.

In other IoT-related news, Actility, an Industrial IoT connectivity solutions provider, raised €16 million (about $17.2 million) in funding to strengthen its position in the global LPWAN market. The company planned to use the funding to promote its growth.

The company previously raised €70 million ($75.3 million) in funding from telecom operators (Orange, KPN, Inmarsat, Foxconn, Swisscom), Venture Capital (Bpifrance, BNP Paribas, Ginko Ventures, Indinvest), and industrial firms (Bosch, Cisco, Mulliez Creadev).

Actility used the funds to boost the development and implementation of its industrial IoT solutions, expand its R&D team, and create new roaming solutions.
