Microsoft outpaces Amazon and Google in cloud AI

Cloud heavyweights AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) are positioning themselves to make use of AI as a key driver of cloud infrastructure progress.

In response to IoT Analytics, Microsoft is rising as a cloud AI chief, notably in genAI, passing each AWS and Google.

Microsoft leads in generative AI

Microsoft accounted for 45% of latest cloud AI case research, together with 62% of genAI-focused tasks. The success is essentially attributable to its collaboration with and acquisition of OpenAI, which has improved its market place.

AWS, against this, excels in conventional AI. It captured 15% of latest cloud AI case research, with 85% targeted on non-genAI, showcasing its power in legacy AI.

Google Cloud, although trailing in quantity, integrates AI extra deeply into its operations. AI drives 36% of Google’s new cloud case research.

Cloud AI engagement breakdown

IoT Analytics highlighted disparities in cloud AI engagement relative to total market share:

  • Microsoft: AI engagement stood at 45%, exceeding its 29% cloud market share.
  • Google: AI engagement reached 17%, nearly doubling its 9% market share.
  • AWS: At 34%, AI engagement lagged behind its 37% cloud market share.

In genAI particularly, Microsoft’s engagement price was double its total market share, whereas AWS trailed by 21 share factors, underscoring Microsoft’s rising dominance on this space.

AI drives funding in cloud infrastructure

The rising demand for AI is prompting hyperscalers to ramp up infrastructure spending. Amazon plans $75 billion in capital expenditures for 2025 to reinforce AWS and its AI capabilities. Equally, Microsoft and Google are increasing their AI-focused knowledge centres to assist rising workloads.

International cloud infrastructure spending reached $84 billion in Q3 2024, a 23% year-over-year improve fueled by AI investments, based on Synergy Analysis Group. ABI Analysis predicts that by 2030, 43% of knowledge facilities might be large-scale amenities, up from the present 28%, to accommodate AI and different data-intensive purposes.

Microsoft’s edge in cloud AI

Microsoft’s dominance in cloud AI and genAI engagement cements its place as a frontrunner within the race for AI-powered cloud innovation. As competitors amongst hyperscalers intensifies, Microsoft’s partnerships and technique make it a key participant in shaping the way forward for cloud computing.
