MWC MWC has historically been the telcos’ playground – and Lenovo is leaning into this with a newly introduced sequence of edge AI collaborations with Deutsche Telekom, Orange, and Telefonica.

The collaborations introduced in Barcelona allow the telecom suppliers to create and ship a broad array of AI workloads for purchasers, starting from automated deployment of edge-to-cloud AI infrastructure, networking, software program, orchestration, and administration.

Maybe essentially the most attention-grabbing mission is with Telefonica. Lenovo’s ThinkEdge servers are a part of Telefonica’s new multi-cloud edge computing structure for good cities. The important thing use case is in alerting public security officers of hazard, together with utilizing video analytics and pc imaginative and prescient to determine smoke and hearth. The opposite elements of the stack embody Telefonica’s personal Telco Cloud and Motorola’s push-to-talk expertise. The collaboration ‘orchestrates the whole edge-to-cloud ecosystem’, as Lenovo places it.

Lenovo and Orange have prolonged their partnership for 3 extra years and are collectively launching Sylva, described as a ‘basic step to telco cloud and edge homogenisation and sustainability.’ “Collectively, the businesses will assist worldwide telecom suppliers help sustainability targets and enhance companies,” Lenovo famous.

In the meantime, Deutsche Telekom announced earlier this month that it had efficiently transitioned its IP-based voice telephony platform to the cloud via its NIMS (Subsequent Era IP Multimedia Subsystem). Lenovo additionally introduced new options that may assist prospects prolong the lifecycle of their units; a sustainability angle whose significance sister publication CloudTech reported last year. One analyst described Lenovo as ‘manically targeted’ on this regard.

For Telefonica, the chances seem like huge. “Along with Lenovo, Telefonica is demonstrating how edge AI applied sciences can be utilized in a multi-cloud setting in on a regular basis life, seamlessly bringing the ability of the cloud to the scene of knowledge and opening the door to new functions,” mentioned Felipe Jose Vicens Gonzalez of Telefonica International IT. “With Lenovo edge-to-cloud AI infrastructure, we’re reimagining the chances and constructing the way forward for telecommunications.”
