Legrand, famend for its experience in electrical and digital constructing infrastructures, has joined forces with NorthC Knowledge Facilities to rework the Münchenstein 1 information centre right into a cutting-edge, AI-ready facility. This strategic improve is designed to accommodate the surging demand for GPU clusters, hybrid-cloud workloads, and high-performance computing (HPC).

With regional information centres unfold throughout Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Germany, NorthC recognized a urgent want for enhanced AI and HPC capability on the Münchenstein website. This necessitated a swift infrastructure overhaul, transitioning from low-density programs to superior setups able to tackling trendy AI calls for inside a stringent six-month timeline.

Leveraging the experience of USystems, a specialist model of Legrand, ColdLogik Rear-Door Warmth Exchangers (RDHx) have been launched for state-of-the-art rack-level cooling. These revolutionary exchangers are affixed to the again of server racks, capturing and dissipating warmth effectively, and recirculating chilled air. This closed-loop system not solely boosts effectivity but additionally helps high-density racks, qualifying as the top of energy-efficient rear-door cooling worldwide.

The sophistication of this renovation meant that the RDHx items have been seamlessly built-in whereas holding the information centre operational—a course of Wolfgang Voigt, website supervisor at NorthC, likened to “open-heart surgical procedure.”

Remarkably, these developments have resulted in an approximate 80% discount in vitality consumption on the Münchenstein facility. Emphasising GPU clusters, hybrid-cloud, and high-density computing, the centre now caters to AI and HPC purposes, adheres to Swiss information protocols, and affords high-speed and low-latency infrastructure.

Wolfgang Voigt, Münchenstein Knowledge Heart Web site Supervisor at NorthC, remarked on the game-changing nature of the RDHx know-how, highlighting its twin functionality to help high-density computing and drastically minimize vitality utilization. Such options make it a compelling possibility for assembly superior AI and HPC wants.

With a design that embraces modularity and adaptability, the up to date infrastructure is ready to accommodate future expansions, extra racks, or transitions to liquid/direct-chip know-how. NorthC is forging forward in its sustainability mission, repeatedly refining cooling options, optimising present capabilities, and steering in direction of local weather neutrality by 2030.

Colin Rowlands from USystems emphasised the benefit of set up throughout total or partial information centres, expressing satisfaction within the joint answer that equips NorthC with a forward-looking, adaptable framework.
