RoboSense, a LiDAR and perception solution provider, introduces the M Platform line of sensors. With the launch of the M2 and M3 LiDARs, RoboSense says it is expanding its automotive industry’s portfolio of sensors for intelligent driving systems.

According to Mark Qiu, the executive director and executive president of RoboSense, the company’s technology and mass manufacturing expertise have allowed it to develop LiDAR that is high-performing, compact, energy-efficient and cost-effective.

“By launching the M2 and M3, we are meeting our customers’ needs, enabling seamless upgrades to their intelligent driving systems and efficient product development,” states Qiu.

“The commercialization of LiDAR has become a reality, and we believe our M2 and M3 products will allow us to accelerate the adoption of LiDAR for autonomous vehicles.”

The M3 is the first long-range LiDAR sensor on the M Platform. It outperforms 1550 nm lidar at a lower cost, has a smaller size and has reduced power consumption, the company says.

It also has a range of 300m and can detect smaller objects. The modular design allows for future performance improvements and cost reductions without changing the form factor or interface. RoboSense says the M3 is designed for safe and intelligent driving systems, meeting the needs of L3 vehicles at speeds up to 120km/h.

Meanwhile, the company notes that M2 is a high-performance mid-range LiDAR that builds upon the M1 and M1 Plus models. It features 2D scanning technology and MEMS chips, allowing for a range of 200m and an angular resolution of 0.1° x 0.1°.

RoboStone says it is the first LiDAR company to develop chip technology, including MEMS, and achieve mass production of automotive-grade solid-state LiDAR. As of December 2023, RoboSense has achieved 62 design wins for vehicle models and facilitated the mass production delivery of 24 models for 12 OEMs and Tier 1 customers.
