RPI and IBM intend the brand new system to offer academic and analysis alternatives for the college and different tutorial establishments and organizations throughout the New York area.

“Standing on the forefront of quantum computing as the primary college to host an IBM Quantum System One is a becoming celebration of RPI’s pioneering legacy in our bicentennial 12 months,” mentioned RPI president Marty Schmidt.

“Our college students are desirous to discover quantum computing’s purposes in addressing our hardest challenges and I am excited to witness the creativity of each our college students and school researchers as they unlock quantum’s potential to form a greater future.”

The System One at RPI incorporates a 127-qubit IBM Quantum Eagle. IBM describes it as a utility-scale quantum pc, which means it may possibly carry out dependable computations at a scale past brute-force classical computing strategies.

The brand new pc joins IBM’s fleet of quantum computer systems put in on shopper websites within the U.S., Canada, Germany and Japan. New installations are underway in South Korea and Spain.
