Gcore, an international provider of cloud, AI, and edge solutions, has unveiled its latest product, FastEdge, in a bid to signal a paradigm shift in application deployment and performance enhancement. The serverless solution is designed for cloud-native development, offering a seamless and efficient approach to creating responsive and personalized applications without the inherent complexities of server management, according to the company.

FastEdge introduces serverless edge execution, capitalizing on Gcore’s knowledge in cloud technology, artificial intelligence, and security. The company claims developers can now deploy decentralized applications globally, sidestepping the intricacies of server configuration and infrastructure maintenance. The backbone of the solution lies in Gcore’s content delivery network (CDN), which distributes custom code across more than 160 edge nodes worldwide, with the goal of ensuring nearly instantaneous responses to user interactions for unparalleled app responsiveness.

Central to FastEdge’s performance is the utilization of the WebAssembly (Wasm) runtime environment. Boasting an ultra-fast startup time, Wasm launches applications multiple times faster than traditional container-based solutions. FastEdge’s isolated sandbox environment enhances security, safeguarding against malware and guaranteeing a consistent, high-performance user experience.

In addition to its exceptional capabilities, FastEdge supports lightweight AI model execution at the edge, streamlining the process of developing, testing, and deploying GenAI apps. This feature eliminates the need for developers to create their own AI infrastructure, significantly accelerating time-to-market in an industry that is rapidly evolving.

Andre Reitenbach, CEO at Gcore, comments: “At Gcore, we strive to make the internet a better place for everyone. We designed FastEdge, our new edge computing product, to enable the dev community to build and deploy useful applications quickly, easily, and globally, without the limitations of traditional cloud computing.

“Edge computing is the next big step in the evolution of CDN that empowers creative minds to innovate and deliver unique value eliminating geographical barriers. We’re excited to provide this new opportunity to industry experts as well as dev enthusiasts.”

FastEdge caters to a range of use cases, appealing to frontend and full-stack developers, as well as network and infrastructure professionals seeking advanced network management solutions.

Currently in beta, FastEdge is available for free to JavaScript and Rust developers, with plans for future compatibility with Go and other languages.
