European Commission to invest €112m in AI and quantum research

The European Fee has launched requires proposals for AI and quantum analysis.

The proposals for AI and quantum analysis fall underneath Horizon Europe’s 2023-2024 digital, industrial and area work programme.

The Fee has beforehand acknowledged the significance of those applied sciences by reinforcing quantum value chains and introducing the AI Act, which ensures the protection of this rising expertise.

Enhancing AI applicability throughout new sectors

The Fee will make investments over €65m in AI. Of this quantity, €50m will probably be devoted to tasks to develop new methods of mixing information and increasing the capabilities of enormous AI fashions.

These efforts will improve AI applicability throughout new domains and help Europe’s analysis excellence on this area.

One other €15m will probably be invested in growing sturdy and clear AI programs. Tasks will purpose to reinforce AI programs’ reliability and supply significant insights into their decision-making processes.

The above investments will assist develop AI expertise that aligns with the AI Act and the human-centric European approach to AI.

The subsequent era of quantum expertise

Moreover, €40m will probably be invested to spice up analysis into cutting-edge, world-leading quantum applied sciences, of which €25m will probably be invested for the creation of a pan-European community of quantum gravimeters (gravity sensors).

The community will present high-precision gravity measurements, essential for varied sectors like Earth remark and civil engineering.

One other €15m will probably be invested in translational analysis and improvement tasks within the area of next-generation quantum applied sciences.

This cooperation goals to make sure that the EU stays on the forefront of the worldwide quantum expertise race.

Moreover, one other €7.5m will probably be dedicated to tasks that help European values, put individuals on the centre of the digital transformation, and improve the EU’s affect in world ICT standardisation.
