The EU and Japan have held their second Digital Partnership Council in Brussels, selling their imaginative and prescient for a digital transformation that respects elementary rights.

The Digital Partnership Council was co-chaired by Commissioner for the Inner Market, Thierry Breton, and by Japanese Minister for Digital Transformation, Taro Kono, the Minister of Inner Affairs and Communications, Takeaki Matsumoto, and the Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Financial system, Commerce and Trade, Taku Ishii.

The EU and Japan welcomed the implementation of the Digital Partnership and reviewed the progress achieved because the first Digital Partnership Council in 2023.

The companions agreed on a listing of latest deliverables to cooperate on vital digital applied sciences, together with synthetic intelligence (AI), 5G, 6G, semiconductors, high-performance computing (HPC) and quantum expertise, submarine cables, eID, and cybersecurity.

Memorandum of Cooperation

On the second Digital Partnership Council, the EU and Japan signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on digital identities and belief companies.

The Memorandum will facilitate knowledge free circulation with belief by way of cooperation and use instances on the premise of the EU Digital Identification Pockets.
