Equinix Acquires BT’s Dublin Data Centers in €59 Million Deal

International information heart colocation and interconnection supplier Equinix has acquired BT’s information heart operations in Eire, together with two services situated in Dublin’s CityWest and Ballycoolin. The €59 million transaction is predicted to shut within the first half of 2025, pending regulatory and aggressive approvals.

The acquisition by Equinix includes two strategically positioned, carrier-neutral services that span over 150,000 gross sq. ft. Alongside the bodily belongings, Equinix will tackle a talented workforce and an current shopper base of Irish and worldwide companies.

This transfer would align with BT’s international technique of shifting from proudly owning information heart belongings to partnering with large-scale infrastructure suppliers. By adopting an asset-light method, BT goals to supply extra scalable, versatile options to clients, leveraging partnerships to supply providers in over 560 areas worldwide.

BT Eire’s Managing Director, Shay Walsh, expressed optimism concerning the transition, describing it as a pivotal step for the corporate’s data center business. “That is an thrilling new chapter,” he stated. “The settlement enhances our collaboration with Equinix and permits us to give attention to our core strengths in cloud, networking, and safety whereas guaranteeing our shoppers obtain top-tier information heart providers regionally and globally.”

For Equinix, the acquisition would reinforce its already sturdy presence in Eire. In 2022 alone, Equinix says it contributed €35 million by direct and oblique financial exercise within the Irish area. Peter Lantry, Managing Director of Equinix Eire, emphasised the significance of this acquisition in increasing their footprint and delivering worth to clients. “We’re dedicated to making sure a seamless transition for BT’s shoppers and workers, whereas equipping the services to satisfy the calls for of next-generation information heart providers,” stated Mr. Lantry.
