Airline ANA stated Thursday that, along with a US start-up, it hopes to have electrical “air taxis” whizzing over Japan from as early as 2027.

ANA and California-based Joby Aviation stated they’ll set up a three way partnership with a view to deploying greater than 100 of the five-seater plane.

Flying taxis will “revolutionize our air mobility,” Koji Shibata, president and CEO of ANA, stated in an announcement Tuesday.

An ANA spokesman instructed AFP on Thursday that the plane, designed to hold a pilot and as much as 4 passengers at speeds of as much as 200 mph (320km/h), might be in service from as early as 2027.

The challenge primarily envisages journeys between Narita and Haneda airports and Tokyo, though the routes can diversify sooner or later.
