Hyperscale data center solutions provider EdgeConneX has announced its formal validation by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and near-term science-based emissions reduction goals.

The achievement underscores EdgeConneX’s dedication to constructing and operating global data centers with a sustainable ethos. According to the company, the validation aligns with the company’s overarching objective of attaining carbon, waste, and water neutrality by the year 2030.

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) stands as a globally recognized collaboration empowering businesses to establish targets for reducing emissions in accordance with the latest climate science. Facilitated by the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World-Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), SBTi is committed to propelling companies worldwide to slash emissions by half before 2030 and attain net-zero emissions by 2050.

“We are incredibly proud to receive this recognition from the SBTi,” says Randy Brouckman, CEO of EdgeConneX.

“This validation is an achievement and a testament to our unwavering commitment to sustainability and our resolve to take decisive action towards environmental stewardship. As responsible corporate citizens, we recognize our role in creating a sustainable future, and this validation reaffirms that we are on the right path.”

As per SBTi, EdgeConneX, International Cooperatief U.A. pledges to decrease absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 50.3 percent by 2030 compared to the 2021 baseline. Additionally, the commitment extends to reducing scope 3 emissions by 51.6 percent per megawatt of installed data center capacity within the same timeframe.

The target boundary encompasses biogenic land-related emissions and removals from bioenergy feedstocks. This validation showcases EdgeConneX’s concrete steps toward a sustainable future and aligning its efforts with the global imperative for climate action.

“Achieving SBTi validation for our emissions reduction targets is a significant step in our journey towards minimizing carbon emissions and reducing water generated and used by our operations wherever we can. We remain committed to setting and reaching ambitious goals that reflect our dedication to our customers and the planet.”

EdgeConneX is a member of the UN Global Compact Ten. In addition, EdgeConneX was recently recognized with the highest ranking in the Structure Research 2023 state of environmental impact report.
