€3m EU FORSEE project to analyse the potential and risks of AI

A €3m European Union (EU) analysis initiative, led by College School Dublin’s (UCD) Centre for Digital Coverage, is ready to discover the societal implications of Synthetic Intelligence (AI).

The challenge, FORSEE (Forging Profitable AI Purposes for European Financial system and Society), will examine each the advantages and dangers of AI, with the aim of bettering capabilities and shaping EU regulatory frameworks.

Chief of the challenge, Dr Elizabeth Farries, Director of UCD Centre for Digital Coverage, defined: “FORSEE seeks to enhance our understanding of what ‘profitable AI’ really means to boost regulatory views and approaches.

“Specializing in sustainability, labour and financial effectivity, gender and engagement with civil society, our analysis group will provide broadened consciousness of the alternatives and dangers of AI, primarily based on our grounded analysis.”

A broader perspective on AI success

Launching in February 2025, FORSEE varieties a part of the Horizon Europe programme beneath the funding name, Past the Horizon: A Human-Pleasant Deployment of Synthetic Intelligence and Associated Applied sciences.

Not like conventional measures that prioritise technological developments and financial effectivity, FORSEE seeks to redefine the idea of AI success by contemplating its societal and financial impacts.

The challenge includes a consortium of eight companions, together with universities, analysis establishments, and suppose tanks from six European nations.

Via engagement with establishments, civil society organisations, and the broader public, FORSEE goals to determine present standards for AI success and assess their alignment with EU priorities.

The initiative can even study the components that allow or hinder the success of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in integrating AI applied sciences.

The potential dangers of AI

AI poses vital dangers if not correctly managed. Bias in algorithms can result in unfair decision-making, whereas automation threatens job safety throughout varied industries.
