Digital Realty rolls out HVO at three US sites

Digital Realty has deployed the usage of vegetable oil (HVO) at its websites in California and Oregon.

HVO, which can be utilized with standard diesel to energy present turbines, is being deployed at three of Digital Realty’s websites: PDX12 facility in Hillsboro, Oregon; SC1 in Santa Clara, California, and LAX12 in El Segundo, California.

That is the corporate’s first implementation of HVO within the US, with this enlargement which means Digital Realty might be utilizing HVO throughout seven world markets. The most recent deployment will imply Digital Realty will keep away from roughly 12,000 metric tons CO2 emissions.

“By increasing our HVO rollout to the US, we’re additional increasing our dedication to sustainability, delivering tangible leads to lowering carbon emissions whereas sustaining operational excellence.

“This can be a vital milestone in our pursuit of options that tackle the environmental influence of backup turbines at knowledge centres. We’re happy to be adopting HVO within the US for knowledge centres and to be setting a brand new commonplace for knowledge centre sustainability worldwide,” stated Aaron Binkley, Vice President of Sustainability, Digital Realty. 

Digital Realty joined the Science-Based mostly Targets initiative (SBTi) in 2020, pledging to cut back Scope 1 and a pair of emissions by 68% and Scope 3 emissions by 24% by 2030.
