Digital Realty has introduced the activation of a brand new level of presence (PoP) in Crete, developed in partnership with EXA Infrastructure. This initiative strengthens Crete’s position as a key carrier-neutral connectivity hub within the Mediterranean.

As a part of this collaboration, Digital Realty is constructing HER1, its first information heart in Crete. Anticipated to go reside in early 2025 with an preliminary capability of 1 MW, HER1 would be the island’s first carrier-neutral facility, enabling interconnection for worldwide and regional subsea cables. This can fill a vital connectivity hole and reinforce Greece’s place as a significant hub for information visitors throughout Southern and Jap Europe.  

HER1 will leverage EXA’s intensive community to enhance connectivity between Jap and Western Mediterranean markets. With various subsea and terrestrial routes linking Crete to Athens and key European hubs like Zagreb and Vienna, EXA will present vital redundancy and assist new subsea cable initiatives utilizing HER1 for interconnection.

Digital Realty’s Senior Vice President and Managing Director for Europe Med, Fabrice Coquio, mentioned, “We’re thrilled to broaden on our collaboration with EXA to make Crete a big connectivity hub.” Along with filling essential connectivity gaps within the Mediterranean, “HER1 will additional set up Greece as a strategic gateway for information visitors between Jap Europe, the Center East, Africa, Asia Pacific, and past by using EXA’s intensive community capabilities.”
