Ciena has agreed to accumulate New Jersey-based Nubis Communications in an all-cash deal price $270 million, including co-packaged optics and lively copper applied sciences geared toward scaling AI workloads inside the info centre.

The deal will permit Ciena to develop its portfolio of high-speed interconnects and convey over greater than 50 engineers with deep optical and electrical experience. It’s all linked to the corporate build up its battle chest to cope with the exploding demand for AI.

“The acquisition of Nubis represents a major step ahead in Ciena’s technique to deal with the quickly rising demand for scalable, high-performance connectivity inside the info centre, pushed by the explosive progress of AI-related site visitors,” stated David Rothenstein, Chief Technique Officer at Ciena.

“With possession of those key applied sciences for a wider vary of use circumstances inside the info centre, we’re increasing our aggressive benefit by advancing growth of differentiated options, decreasing growth prices, and driving long-term effectivity and profitability.”

What Nubis brings to the desk

The deal was cemented by two core Nubis applied sciences that Ciena highlighted as key. They’re geared toward bandwidth, density and energy effectivity calls for inside AI clusters, and embody:

  • Co-Packaged Optics (CPO) / Close to-Packaged Optics (NPO): Compact, high-density optical modules supporting as much as 6.4 Tb/s full-duplex bandwidth, optimised for low latency and low energy. Paired with Ciena’s high-speed SerDes, the optical engines are pitched to allow differentiated CPO options for connectivity inside and between racks.
  • Electrical Energetic Copper Cables (ACC): Analog electronics that drive copper hyperlinks as much as 4 metres at 200 Gb/s per lane, providing a low-power, low-latency possibility to attach extra AI accelerators throughout racks with out the attain limits of passive copper or the ability draw of DSP-based cables.
