In line with Reuters, China is now requiring its chipmakers to make use of a minimum of 50% domestically made tools when increasing their manufacturing capability.

The rule isn’t publicly documented, however chipmakers should present that a minimum of half of their tools is Chinese language to get authorities approval. The requirement could also be quickly relaxed for essentially the most superior manufacturing the place home know-how isn’t but out there.

The goal is to cut back the nation’s dependence on international know-how and construct a self-sufficient semiconductor provide chain. Since 2023, US export restrictions have prevented China from shopping for superior AI chips and manufacturing equipment.
