The software-defined edge, as outlined by VMware, encompasses distributed digital infrastructure facilitating workload deployment close to endpoints the place information is generated or consumed. The infrastructure spans varied areas, from workplace areas to manufacturing facility flooring, addressing the wants of customers and units. VMware’s method targets three layers: edge compute stack for internet hosting purposes, clever overlay for connectivity and safety companies, and the underlay community layer for community orchestration throughout mounted and 5G networks.
