Biden orders Energy, Defense Departments to Lease Sites for AI Data Centers

President Biden on Tuesday (January 14) signed an executive order to speed up the event of knowledge facilities to allow synthetic intelligence, whereas additionally making certain the brand new amenities are powered by emissions-free electrical energy.

The order directs the US Division of Protection and US Division of Power to lease websites for gigawatt-scale AI information facilities and energy technology amenities, and “to facilitate this infrastructure’s interconnection to the electrical grid, fulfill allowing obligations expeditiously, and advance transmission improvement round federal websites.”

Progress of AI may lead information facilities to consume 9% of the United States’ electricity by 2030, in line with the Electrical Energy Analysis Institute.
