The Division of Protection is offering a $269 million funding to strengthen the US microelectronics manufacturing business and its workforce growth efforts.

The funding will go towards 33 new technical tasks as a part of the Microelectronics Commons (ME Commons) initiative, supported by the CHIPS and Science Act The initiative is a key component of the Biden-Harris administration’s efforts to spice up home semiconductor manufacturing whereas decreasing reliance on international suppliers.

Arati Prabhakar, the president’s chief advisor for science and know-how, said the funding will drive developments within the semiconductor sector. She argued that the ME Commons programme will produce essential elements to extend the nation’s defence capabilities whereas rising safety and competitiveness.

The ME Commons programme, launched in 2023, includes eight regional hubs that may obtain a complete of $2 billion in funding by way of to 2027. The hubs search to expedite home microelectronics growth and prepare employees in superior expertise, therefore offering alternatives for well-paying positions within the business.
