Amazon Plans $13B Investment in Australia Data Centers

(Bloomberg) — Amazon plans to speculate A$20 billion ($13 billion) in Australia between this yr and 2029 to develop its information middle infrastructure.

The dedication would assist the expansion in demand in Australia for cloud computing and AI, for which it could velocity up adoption and functionality, Amazon stated in a press release. 

The funding, within the Sydney and Melbourne information facilities, is the largest ever in Australia by a worldwide expertise firm, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stated. 

Albanese met Amazon Net Companies Chief Govt Officer Matt Garman on Saturday on a stopover in Seattle on his method to the G7 summit in Canada.

Business and Innovation Minister Tim Ayres, talking on Sky Information Australia, stated the funding was “very vital” for the nation’s digital infrastructure funding.

“It’s in Australia’s pursuits to lean into the chance,” Ayres stated. “We have to be makers of the expertise in addition to takers of the expertise.” 

Amazon can be investing in three new photo voltaic farms in Victoria and Queensland to assist the expanded infrastructure, it stated.
