Amazon is chopping about 16,000 jobs throughout the corporate, SVP of Folks Expertise and Know-how Beth Galetti wrote in an e-mail to workers Wednesday.

The cuts have been widely expected — and though Galetti’s email didn’t point out Amazon Net Providers, the cuts got here as no shock to AWS employees, a few of whom have been prematurely invited to a gathering to debate them, in response to information stories.

SVP for AWS Utilized AI Options Colleen Aubrey emailed a gathering invitation to employees late Tuesday referring to Galetti’s e-mail, which employees had not then obtained, Bloomberg reported. “Modifications like this are arduous on everybody,” it reported the email from Aubrey as saying. “The selections are tough and made thoughtfully as we place our group and AWS for future success.”
