ABB has revealed plans to advance the event of gigawatt-scale, next-generation information centres in partnership with NVIDIA. This joint effort goals to innovate cutting-edge energy options, facilitating enhanced effectivity and scalability to accommodate future AI workloads.

The enterprise centres on designing and implementing 800 VDC energy structure for 1 megawatt server racks, integral to NVIDIA’s technological methods. Assembly this capability effectively mandates state-of-the-art developments in energy distribution methodologies and architectures. Rising energy configurations envisage utilising medium voltage (MV) uninterruptible energy provide (UPS) techniques linked with direct present (DC) energy distribution inside server rooms, powered by solid-state energy electronics.

Giampiero Frisio, President of ABB Electrification, famous the pivotal position ABB performs, stating that they’re on the forefront of growing new energy distribution applied sciences essential for future information centres. Their focus contains groundbreaking UPS techniques, DC distribution, and solid-state electronics, all essential for assembly the hovering energy calls for imposed by AI developments.

World projections recommend an upsurge in information centre demand, anticipated to climb from 80GW in 2024 to roughly 220GW by 2030. This progress, anticipated to deliver over $1 trillion in capital expenditure, highlights AI-driven necessities, projected to represent almost 70% of this enlargement.

NVIDIA’s Dion Harris remarked on the need of modern energy distribution methods in response to burgeoning AI wants, underscoring the significance of ABB and NVIDIA’s collaborative efforts in facilitating 800V architectures essential for the high-density AI infrastructure essential for AI’s subsequent chapters.

ABB boasts a complete array of options tailor-made for information centres, comprising clever energy distribution techniques, backup energy options, and digital monitoring applied sciences. This suite ensures sustained operations and maximises power effectivity for AI-driven servers. Furthermore, some 40% of ABB’s analysis initiatives in electrification are pivotal for the way forward for information centre applied sciences, spanning electrical architectures, safety gadgets, DC distribution, and cooling options.
